If there’s anything that rivals the importance of consistency in training, it’s what I like to call the X Factor. What is the X Factor? If you’ve read many of my posts, you won’t be surprised: it’s all about mindset.
The X Factor is the drive and unstoppable determination to accomplish your goals in the gym. It’s the part of you that is willing to do whatever it takes to get better. You have to decide that you will accomplish whatever you have set as your training priorities, and any setbacks are only temporary.
When you encounter obstacles, the X Factor is the voice in your head that says “I’m doing it anyway“.
Without it, you’ll end up at the same place as everybody else, and if you’re reading my blog, I know that’s not you.
The X Factor is the voice in your head that says “I’m doing it anyway”.
Didn’t sleep well? I’m training anyway.
Schedule seems full? I’m training anyway.
Feeling exhausted? I’m training anyway.
Having a bad week at work? I’m training anyway.
Girlfriend broke up with you? I’m training anyway.
The X Factor is the willingness to endure temporary discomfort in order to reach your long term goals.
It’s not about just wanting it. Everybody wants to look and feel better! You have to take it and be willing to sacrifice other things in your life in pursuit of your goal.
It’s an old-school mentality, and it’s not very popular in today’s soft society. That’s a big part of why most people are so unhealthy and out of shape. But if you can find the X Factor within you while being consistent with your training, you’ll watch as the obstacles in your way melt like ice cubes next to a fire.
